Being 40 feet from the Caribbean Sea we needed something that could withstand both hurricane force winds and salt corrosion. The flexible design of the ShadeFX canopy seems to be able to handle the wind with no issues at all and all the materials used stand up extremely well to both the sun and the salt.
This was my first experience working with a retractable canopy and it could not have gone more smoothly. The architect specified a concept he had experienced in Italy but the cost of importing the European options did just not make sense. We've assembled dozens of pergolas and outdoor seating structures over the past few years. As a designer, I find that every project has a unique challenge in this circumstance it was overexposure to sun on the main terrace.

The quality is amazing. My shades are 2 years old and look the same as they did when they were new. No mold or mildew growth, fading, stretching, tearing or anything. I usually do not take the time to give reviews, but this deserves the time. We are now 1 year in using our canopy and we have enjoyed more days outside this past summer than ever, the shade has made a large deck usable the entire day! Don't let the cost scare you away... quality products are always more costly upfront. Installation has to be the easiest of any similar product, and the single-track design works better than advertised.

I needed a shade canopy over a deck on the 'sunny' side of our cottage near Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada. The cottage has south-facing 18-foot high windows and even on moderate days the interior would become so hot it was unbearable. It was also not possible to open the patio doors as the deck heated so much, the air coming in would be even hotter! Shade FX provided the perfect solution.
The canopy is attractive, easy to operate and does not impeded the view of the spectacular Georgian Bay lakefront. My interior heat problem has vanished, and we now have full use of our 20x26-foot deck in any weather, intense sun or rain. It was easy to install, either as a DIY project or by untrained workers and enhances the look of the cottage, suspended under my fir-beamed pergola, and exceeds my expectations in every way.

Our ShadeFX canopy has been a wonderful “addition” to our home. Our favourite feature is the flexibility it provides us. We can extend the canopy and relax in a shaded “room” outdoors or we can quickly and easily retract it to enjoy sun on the deck and in the house. The canopy also allows us to leave our upholstered patio furniture and carpets out all summer long – no more dragging cushions in and out with the threat of rain. An additional and unexpected benefit has been the privacy our canopy affords – it’s like relaxing or entertaining in an intimate, modern space, while feeling the breeze, listening to the waterfall, smelling the garden and watching the hummingbirds at the feeder. The family dog also loves to lounge under the protection of the canopy on rainy or sunny days.
Our Shadefx canopy has been one of the best investments we have made to our home. It has resulted in reduced energy costs because the shade it provides results in less dependence on air conditioning during hotter months. But more importantly, installing the canopy has been like building an addition onto the house – it has provided a wonderful, useable space, without the complication and cost of a conventional addition.

Last night would have been the first time since we built the home 22 years ago where we actually sat outside on the deck in the late afternoon/evening on a warm sunny day. The color scheme blends in perfectly, and I found the manual drive very easy to operate, particularly after doing it a few times to break things in. Most importantly, it provides the shade we have needed. Also, with all of the white trim we have, I am glad I paid the extra for the powder coating. Previously, I installed some simple outdoor drop down shades on the East & West ends. So, the combination of the two work great.
