Sitting on the edge of Shelburne, Vermont, a waterfront home offers spectacular views of Lake Champlain’s deep blues and New York State’s Adirondacks.

Seen as one of Vermont’s most coveted property locations, these homeowners sought to take full advantage of the iconic views by creating an outdoor space indicative of lakeside living.

Taking charge of the large-scale interior and exterior redesign of the lake cottage is local construction and renovation company Sweeney DesignBuild.

Founded in 2007, owner Shawn Sweeney brought together a team of highly experienced and skilled carpenters and craftspeople who take an enlightened approach to renovation and building. From the first contact, they seek to address their client’s wishes and needs, while keeping their budget in mind.

For this project, the team created a modern and cozy look that permeates the cottage and out to the new back deck. There, various areas were created for sitting, lounging, and dining outdoors. An attached pergola and retractable canopy cover the modern dining area, creating shelter for sun and rain while the homeowners enjoy this space.

Incorporated from the design stage, ShadeFX specified a manual 12′ x 12′ retractable canopy in a modern Sunbrella Beaufort Cloud fabric. The taupe and cream striped pattern matches perfectly to the aluminum pergola and to the neutral colour scheme at the back of the house.

The homeowners have a perfect location to escape to during the warmer months. The renovation added style, function, and value that could be enjoyed for years to come. They can savor the beautiful scenery and their meals throughout the day under the new covered outdoor dining area.
