In California, outdoor living comes with the territory. Thanks to the State’s temperate climate, residents can enjoy alfresco dining and lounging year-round. California homes reflect this kind of living, with outdoor spaces that blur the boundaries between inside and out.

To take advantage of the mild temperatures, as well as the incredible vistas, these homeowners designed their backyard in a true outdoor living fashion. The beautifully landscaped backyard includes a living and dining area, a kitchen, and a large natural pool.

Anticipating they would have to cope with SoCal’s hot rays, the homeowners reached out to ShadeFX. They planned to build an 11’x26’ custom pergola along the back of the house and needed assistance with the design.

Determining that they would spend most of their time sitting at the outdoor dining table, the homeowners focused their efforts on shading that space. From initial contact, the homeowners were interested in the retractable roof option. Mounting the shade solution on top of the pergola allowed them to install multiple pendant lights underneath and most importantly, the beautiful architecture of the custom structure would always be on show.

Working with their local contractor, the pergola was built to fit our retractable roofs with custom saddle brackets installed to accommodate the tracks. ShadeFX manufactured 12’x10’ and 12’x16’ retractable roofs to fit parallel to each other. The roofs amply cover the outdoor dining area and any other furniture the homeowners might want to add to the space.

The Sunbrella Slate fabric and black powder-coated hardware merge flawlessly with the dark wooden pergola. Whether entertaining friends or spending time with loved ones, this Cali outdoor space is comfortable to use at any time of day.
