Up to the challenge, Californian homeowners David and Kimberly built a large deck off the sliding doors at the back of their house. They sought to enjoy many evenings outside sitting under their big oak tree, however, rain and the occasional leaves quickly became a problem.

Recognizing they needed a dynamic waterproof shade, the homeowners reached out to ShadeFX for a better understanding of our shade units and for specific requirements needed for building their pergola.

After meeting with their local contractor and landscape architect, they decided that a wooden pergola was too heavy, bulky and pricey. More aesthetically in-line with their requirements, David and Kimberly chose our full turnkey solution of a custom aluminum structure with retractable shade.

To ensure a seamless transition from indoor to out, an attached two-post structure and manual canopy measuring 18’x16’, were customized to cover the entire deck. The structure was powder coated a dark Umbra Grey and a  neutral Ferrari Sandy beige was chosen for the canopy fabric. Additional wings were specified to clear the sliding door and lights while the canopy is retracted.
