ShadeFX’s retractable shades are a custom solution that can be applied in a variety of ways. Often, one large shade can cover an entire space. However, sometimes two canopies may be the better alternative.

Ian Moore Design Inc took on an extensive project to replace and restore an existing hardscape left unfinished by the previous homeowners. Specializing in outdoor structures and creative use of spaces, they achieved balance and serenity for this home in Berkeley, California.

After removing a polycarbonate structure, Ian Moore Design refurbished the same area with a modern metal pergola. Flange mounted on the structure are two 12’x 12’ manual retractable shades. Recommended by our product specialist, a rain hood hovers above the 3” gap between the canopies, which also doubles as the inside stabilizers.

With minimal clearance, each canopy has six extra wings to reduce the canopy drop from the standard 22″. For further rain management, aircraft cables are used as the outside stabilizers to further deflect rain to either side of the structure.
