Architects bring their clients’ visions to life, beautifying spaces while making them functional and dynamic. They typically partner with contractors and other building professionals to ensure clients get the most out of their project while staying within a strict budget and timeframe.
Ann Day Architects worked with New England Artisans’ Remodeling Design Group on the backyard renovation of a Westport, Connecticut residence. The dynamic duo uses a design/build approach to all projects enabling them to be efficiently managed and executed.
From the initial plans, ShadeFX retractable shades were specified for this project due to its versatility and design.
Working closely with ShadeFX, Ann Day’s application includes three 20’x10’ motorized retractable shades to cover the homeowners’ new outdoor dining and barbecue area. The canopy drop is reduced to allow ceiling fans to be operated without interference. This also ensures unobstructed views through the glass windows and doors when the canopies are retracted. Custom brackets were manufactured to mount to the I-beam support.
The architect’s professional eye is seen throughout the space. The natural tone of Sunbrella Cadet Grey canopy fabric pairs nicely with the white attached pergola, completing the traditional look of the outdoor patio area.
“It was a pleasure to work with ShadeFX! The quality and construction are of high quality. They worked with me closely to provide details, information and their expertise, to get the design right. The client is very happy with the results and it looks amazing. I would highly recommend ShadeFX to other clients and look forward to working with them again.”

The homeowners now have a dynamic outdoor space to be enjoyed with family and friends. When the weather is nice, the shades can be retracted for an alfresco dining experience. When the sun is at its peak, the canopy can be extended protecting all beneath.
Our retractable shade can be incorporated into any backyard design. Ask us how.
